Sex, Marriage & Fairytales... Jeff Bethke

Shannon and I have been asked to help with a marriage class.  Although we aren't by any means experts on the subject, it is a chance for us to break out of our comfort zone and respond to God's call to us help others.  Like I said, we aren't qualified to teach, but having been married for (almost) 10 years and having survived our marital scrapes and bruises, with God's help we can FACILITATE a class on this topic.  The above video really helped to motivate us towards this.

Vince Flynn - Pursuit Of Honor

Pursuit of Honor (Mitch Rapp, #12)Pursuit of Honor by Vince Flynn
I was half way through this book when the news came out about Mr. Flynn's early passing. What an inspired life he led!

This book finished a two part section in an on-going story. Good momentum throughout, and the right amount of "I told you so, jerk" dialogue which Mr. Flynn is famous for.

Additionally:  Mr. Flynn passed away while I was mid-way through this book.  He had been battling colon cancer for a few years.  Vince Flynn's books were first suggested to me by my dad.  He knew I wasn't an avid reader and thought I would enjoy the plots of these books.  I surely did!  I loved the stories - not only those in his books, but the story of Mr. Vince Flynn himself.  He was also a Minnesotan, but the very interesting part of his background is how he battled his dyslexia.  You can read more here.

Thank you, Vince Flynn, for helping me to get excited about reading.  http://www.vinceflynn.com/

James Wesley, Rawles - Patriots: Surviving The Coming Collapse

Patriots: Surviving the Coming CollapsePatriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse by James Wesley Rawles
WOW! It took almost a year, but I finally finished this book. It had a good story, but the amount of additional information was what made the read so long. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the entire book! But you know how sometimes a book can get really thick with details? That was this book. The details, however, were the type you want to keep around in case you ever need them. There was also a bit of jumping around with the story. If the book was rewritten with some of the extras filtered out and some better flow, it would help make this book a 5-Star. I often found myself trying to remember which character was whom, etc.
The book can be summed up as a Doomsday Prepper meets New World Order meets Survival Guide meets Army Field Manual = awesome book. It was funny, scary, informative, prophetic and educational all in one. I hope the sequels I ordered are just as informative, only with a little better flow.

Joel C. Rosenberg - The Tehran Initiative

The Tehran InitiativeThe Tehran Initiative by Joel C. Rosenberg
Another great book in the trilogy!   The Damascus Countdown is out now - time to get it to finish the series up.   Some people dislike the series because of all of 'the God stuff,' but it adds to the story.   Mr. Rosenberg either has some experience in the field or has an incredible resource.   The book has the right amount of technical details without being overdone (like a Michael Crichton book).  Now to get the 3rd book!

Beverly Cleary - Ramona And Her Father

Ramona and Her Father (Ramona, #4)Ramona and Her Father by Beverly Cleary
Another Ramona book down. I enjoyed reading it to my 5yo daughter. She is learning to read, so I had her pick out some of the most common words as we read along - her, she, the, and, etc.
This one was interesting in that it was written in the '50s and still applies today (with slight differences). The dad battles smoking addiction, the sisters have a rivalry and Ramona deals with the problems of being a younger sister. Dads - bust your pride and spend some time reading this to your little ones.
