My 2C - Twins Trades For 2013

Still not sure what to think about these 2 Twins trades.  It seems we'll only know after the prospects mature and play or blow out their arms and disappoint.  The Denard Span to Washington trade made sense, though I think the Twins got the short end of the deal with a player in low-A ball.  Most of the reason the Span trade was acceptable was because the Twins still had the talented and ultra-affordable Ben Revere.

Now, the Twins have parted ways with Ben Revere and added 2 pitchers from the Phillies in return.  The pitchers are Vance Worley and Jeff May.  May is an average pitcher in AA who is one of the Phillies' top prospects and Worley was at #4 or 5 for much of the season with Philly.

*The upside is that it looks as though the Twins will have a proven starter on board to begin the 2013 season, however he doesn't have very impressive stats (it should be mentioned that the Phils offense was a little weak last year).

*The downside is Ben Revere won't be in the lineup or in the field.  Revere was by far the major spark of the Twins offense last year and seemed to create scoring opportunities from thin air and effort.  Additionally, his defense often saves runs and his level of effort is reminiscent of greats like Hunter, Puckett and Gladden.

Like almost everything with baseball trades the only thing to do is prognosticate and wait.  We will soon be seeing a whole lot of this outfield 'depth' the Twins keep talking about.
